Not Rich? You Don't Count

The government isn’t shutting down. Aren’t we all just thrilled? Deep down, I felt it wouldn’t shut down anyway, I mean, would Congress be so bold as to still accept checks for not working? Nah, many said they wouldn’t take pay. Since they are greedy by nature, of course they will “strike a deal”.

Also, how on earth did the democrats “compromise”? Like Bill Maher said, it’s kind of like your lawyer telling you “I think I can get your tailgating charge upgraded to manslaughter.” I understand we all have to give up things and we have to “tighten our belts” but WHY doesn’t that apply to fat cats and corporations? Seriously, if we would make the top 2%- heck even the top 1% pay more taxes- it would create more revenue and we could be a much better functioning country.

Why are we taking away a $6.7 million dollar fund that helps

autistic children and giving corporations another tax cut? Why are we trying to defund Planned Parenthood and WIC yet still trying to outlaw abortion? Do we really want to become a country full of ignorant blind who cater to the extremely wealthy? We are slashing PELL grants, so I guess maybe we do. Cancel out the EPA and NOAA but keep giving oil and gas companies REBATES and hand jobs for destroying the environment? Why do we have millions of Americans struggling to make ends meet, working 40+ hours for low wages at dead end jobs and give GE a $4 billion tax rebate check? This is just a chip of the ridiculousness.

Everyday typical Americans DID NOT create this massive debt. Wall Street, the housing industry, oil tycoons (yeah Koch brothers I’m talking to you), the far right Republicans to name a few did this. Stop picking on teachers, firefighters, and other union workers. It’s not their fault.

Why did we separate from England anyway? Didn't they also keep taking from the poor and working classes to fund the elite, rich and royals? We are going backwards at an alarming rate. I guess the American Dream is alive and well, if you are white, male and Christian and are willing to do anything to get ahead. By "do anything", I don’t mean work hard- I mean lie, cheat, steal, stomp on everyone, and have not one ounce of humanity nor compassion for your neighbor and fellow human being. How absolutely un-American and un-Christian.

People, wake up! We are being fleeced.

for the most part i agreed with you till i came upon this part. why did the christian part have to be included? despite a persons beliefs or race this happens anyways. is it un-american? yes, unchristian? yes. does it happen? yes. did we elect them? yes. the problem is not in middle america but in DC. yet you stated this as every white male citizen thats christian does this without a distinction for the two. and at that i was offended. the white male is always being subjected to equal opportunity BS and discriminated against. take jobs for instance...a woman or a minority should get it first cuz the white man always takes our jobs away. really? what happened to best man for the job? and lots of people claim christianity and dont really practice it. but to throw these two groups together not only damaged your point by stating your opinion, but made you seem racist and intolerant. (of which im sure you are not) but not everyone knows that. sometimes the facts are best without biased opinions. you reach a bigger audience.

other than that i liked your arcticle. especially the hand job part. lol

I think the point made about white, male and christian was valid.

Ask yourself this:
The people pushing for these ridiculous budget cuts mentioned in the article above are what?

If you answered White, Male and Christian... ding ding ding... give yourself a point.
(I don't think pointing out these simple facts is racist nor being intolerant, do you?)

As far as where the problem is. I agree with you - but only half way. You are right, the problem is definitely in Washington D.C.; but also, the problem IS in middle America!

Too many Americans listen, watch, and read the continuous rhetoric coming from the Right [aka Republicans/ Tea Party][aka Fox News] then become brainwashed and then think its best to vote against the very things that are in their best interests. (e.g. healthcare, tax cuts for the rich and corporations, the elimination of inheritance taxes, privatization of social security, various welfare programs, etc, etc, etc.)

It's sad to see this happen, and this does happen in middle America as well as Northeast America, Southern America, in the West. It's a epidemic. If these same people would take a minute to stop and think for themselves and vote in favor for things that would benefit and impact them more directly, then we would all be better off.

If you get a chance ask any Republican/Teabagger this:
Do you support an increase in taxes for those making more than $250,000?

I bet your answer will be something like: "F*ck No!" and if you press them on their thoughts, you may get this: "I may be that wealthy one day, and I don't want to pay higher taxes!".
Well that last part may be different, but the excuse for not wanting the wealthy to pay their fair share will likely be just as lame.

Well said Gibson. I was NOT lumping all white Christian male citizens together as being this way. The truth however, is the truth. Like it or not.

Everyone should have the same opportunities. I am sick to death of Christian ideas being shoved down my throat. I don't mind it's the majority religion- but I don't want it pushed on me. Christians are writing laws that support their religious ideologies. This is not right, according to our secular Constitution. Hell maybe one day the "dream" of these whackos is to make the US a nation governed by Canon Law- hence the Sharia scare.

Walmart is a prime example of WHY we have to have equal opportunity laws. White males are not "picked on". Laws do protect minorities- whether it be a religious, gender, race, sexual orientation minority- doesn't matter. They are this way because minorities don't have as big of an overall voice as majorities. If the day comes when white males are a minority, then guess what? There will be laws to protect them as a minority.

Middle Road- I think you read way too deep into my comments and made an assumption as to how I was thinking.

As far as putting my opinions in the article above- when I decided to make this site, I was going to write as opinion free as possible. Then I decided no, I am a very proud progressive liberal and I want to put my ideas out there. I can back my words up with facts, so why not? Reaching a bigger audience? I have tried the neutral approach and not one conservative could or would offer counter points.

That being said, thank you for your comments, I truly appreciate your participation. I hope you will continue to hang around and either 1)agree with me or 2) keep challenging me and sharing your opinions!

im not going anywhere dont worry.

"The people pushing for these ridiculous budget cuts mentioned in the article above are what?"

not all white. not all christian. not all men. yes that is a truth.

yes they may be a majority but their freedoms are infringed upon as well. as soon as a minority feels they need to get their way they play the race card for intimidation. is it in part because of these laws in place? yes. does a white male do that? no. these laws do more than protect...they give excuses. america is supposed to be a land of equal opportunity not get it because youre not white.

yes i agree with you on the christianity point of shoving it down our throats. that is why i was surprised you are one to do it as well. you claim everyone else does it so bad but you yourself say it too. the first step to getting rid of it is not to use it for your own agenda.

it could have been worded differently to not include white male or christian and instead used DC elite or something but you chose to take only one demographic without distinction of class and put it out there. doesnt the kkk do that? yup. what are they? racist. which therefore would make that a racist statement.

Wasn't my quote so I can't really say weather or not Gibson believes they are all white Christian males. However, I will say the MAJORITY are. I will stand by that statement.

With the equal opportunity thing...yes some people do abuse the laws that were enacted to protect them. I won't argue that. But, I don't for one second believe that whites are denied opportunity because they are white. Has it ever happened? Probably.

"yes i agree with you on the christianity point of shoving it down our throats. that is why i was surprised you are one to do it as well. you claim everyone else does it so bad but you yourself say it too. the first step to getting rid of it is not to use it for your own agenda. "

How did I use Christianity for my own agenda? Or did I just completely not get your point? Elaborate please- then I promise I will tell ya my view on it. Or clarify.

But I believe the MAJORITY is white, Christian and male. (the majority of the extreme right I should say) DC elite? No. Because they are elected into office by people who are too ignorant (my opinion only) to do simple research and find out the truth. KKK like? No because I certainly don't think every single white Christian male in this country thinks like the far right. I think it's a majority. I also do not think on a world wide level all white Christian males think like the far right.

I also think the majority of Tea lovin' people (tea party) tend to be more hypocritical than others. They vote against their best interests an awful lot and then sit back and whine about things. But that's another article for another day.

ok ok i was trying to say using it for your own agenda is simply that. you used it for your own purposes in a statement based on your opinion... ie your own agenda. whether its used in a negative or positive conotation, it was used to get a point across. you want a separation from it in the government. as well as i do. now if it was used in a context of in god we trust or something on a national level like that, thats their agenda. then we agree it should not be used in this format right? i was saying if you want the laws to reflect a true nation of religious freedom and delete the God markers from laws, money and so on....dont use it when it suits your best interest either. im just gonna leave it at that, lol its too late...

anyways, this discussion will have to be left as one of those agree to disagree thingys. we can go round and round and still not change our minds on this and thats ok. its not that huge of a deal. im just saying im done arguing on this point for now. i respect your views and thankyou for dealing with my comments with respect. i guess the christian thing kinda gets to me sometimes. i am one but do agree with you on separation of church and state but i thought this went a lil far. and the white guy stuff too...well, i kinda sorta like em......other than that im good, and look forward to new arcticles we can discuss!
