The Birthers Can't Cope With Reality

Obama released his “long form” birth certificate yesterday (4/27/11). You would think that’s great, making the birthers look like crazed lunatics right? Wrong. Immediately they have jumped on the “it’s a hoax!” bandwagon. Here are some of the loudest denials I have heard so far:

“Obama’s father is listed as “African”. During that time we listed African Americans as “Negro”. “
While it’s true that the term “negro” was used for African Americans, it was not used for all people who were black. Obama’s father was indeed African, hence the reason he was listed as “African”.

“His certificate number is higher than a set of twins born at the same hospital a day later.”

Racism in America

“What racism?” people cry, “Didn’t we elect a black guy for president?” (Implying: “Doesn’t that prove that racism is over in America?”).

A few points:

First, on November 4, 2008, the United States did what only one other country that I know of ever has ever done — elect a president from a minority race in a country with a different majority race. (Peru is the only other country I can think of to have done that) That a still predominantly white U.S. would elect a black man as head of state was stunning to many. That historic accomplishment is a sign of great progress and a hope of better things to come for racial equality and justice in the United States.
