Maine Governor LePage Budget Favors Wealthy

Governor Paul LePage promised to defend “the traditional Maine values that have created strong communities and strong families across the state.” He also pledged to enact “new ideas to get Maine working.”

Well unless the traditional values of Maine are to take from the middle class and poor to give to the wealthiest residents- I think LePage has epically failed. In his budget that was released February 28, the governor has unveiled a slew of tax cuts, cutbacks in public services, and the gutting of public employee benefits and pensions.

Included in the budget is a provision that would raise the retirement age of public workers from 62 to 65, cut Maine’s prescription drug and health coverage for working parents program, end $400 of property tax relief for more than 75,000 middle-income Maine households, and freeze cost of living adjustments for state employee retirees — which already provides a meager average pension of only $18,500 per year.

Michigan Republicans Keeping the Batshit Craze Alive

Have ya heard? Republican Michigan governor Rick Snyder, along with the state's Republican house and senate, have passed a controversial bill that allows the governor to dissolve the elected governments of Michigan's towns and cities, replacing them with unaccountable "emergency financial managers" who can eliminate services, merge or eliminate school boards, and lay off or renegotiate unionized public employees without recourse. Republican senator Jack Brandenburg -- who supported the measure -- calls it "financial martial law."

Local governments are subject to electoral recall by residents, these “managers” who the governor appoints will only have to answer to the state legislature. The “managers” will be able to govern as they see fit.

WHAT!?!?! Seriously?! How….undemocratic!

Governor Walker VS. Wisconsin Unions

I proudly stand behind the people of Wisconsin and the “Wisconsin 14”. The Wisconsin 14 refers to the 14 democrat senators that have fled the state. The Dems fled in order to prevent a quorum in the Senate, and thus are preventing a vote on the Governor’s financial legislation. The Senate Majority leader has several times sent WI State Troopers to their homes, to bring them to the Senate floor, and thus satisfy the quorum requirements.
